Myu

"I really don’t know how to do this. Any of it. I don’t know how to have a job, I-I don’t know how to take care of a baby, I barely know how to take care of myself!"
—Pg. 270 "Reflections," Chapter 5: "The Talk"

Myu is a young mew. Prior to the events of the series, she and her mother, Clara, lived in seclusion from the rest of society, a circumstance brought upon by the latter's beliefs that their species is vulnerable to the scientific progress of the modern world. Following her mother's death at the beginning of the series, she is forced into the role of guardianship to her younger sister, Topaz. She is in the primary main characters group, along with Atticus and Topaz.

In Chapter 1: "Things Change", she forms a tentative friendship with Atticus Stone after he agrees to help her take care of Topaz.

Appearance

Myu's appearance is seemingly average for her species: she has a stocky build, bright pink fur, blue eyes, and a long tail that ends in a wide bulb. Her most notable feature is her short, pointed snout, a trait she inherited from her mother.

Personality

Myu has a naturally nervous disposition. Despite this, she has a tendency to act without thinking, frequently rushing ahead of her cohorts in times of stress. This works to her advantage at times, as she successfully rescues Topaz's egg during Gamma's assault in Chapter 1. Frequently, though, it leaves her companions exasperated with her.

Prior to the events of "Things Change", Myu looked to her mother heavily for guidance, a trait that continues to manifest in the series at large. She is reliant on another character's presence to keep her grounded and to receive a sense of validation from, a role that Atticus unwittingly fills. Even so, she has a strong sense of order, and requires things to make sense to her within her limited worldview. She has a surprisingly short temper, and expresses bitterness toward Atticus's tendency to withhold things from her.

The definitions of order she learned from her mother cause intense strife between her and the other two main cast members, Topaz and Atticus. Topaz isn't keen on restrictions, and Atticus regards Myu's attitude toward "variants" such as himself with cynicism.

Despite this, she has bouts of questioning Clara's orders, expressing exasperation at her mother's adamance on keeping away from populated places. She was seen in "Things Change" begging her mother to move closer to a town, a request that Clara seems to never humor. Upon arriving in Callaiaster Town, Myu lights up at the thought of this dream being realized, before noticing the townspeople staring, whereupon she becomes withdrawn again. Among Clara's warnings about the outside world, she finds herself both yearning for the connection to a life she could only watch from afar, and distressed by the world she finds when she meets Atticus.

Relationships

Atticus Stone

"You are a little strange-looking, but I think you're just as much a pokemon as anyone else around here."
—Pg. 34 "Returning," Chapter 1: "Things Change"

Due to her sheltered upbringing, she openly vocalizes her disapproval with the circumstances surrounding Atticus's life, finding it difficult to reconcile with his origins as a genetic experiment and the son of the two scientists, Steven and Roxanne. These open vocalizations extend to comments about his appearance and hesitation to see him as an equal, something that causes regular conflict between the two of them. When she thinks he can't hear, she openly speculates on what would have to happen to someone in order for Atticus to be the result.

She also frequently comes into conflict with Atticus's laissez-faire attitude, expressing frustration and anger with his constant need to crack jokes, even at inappropriate times. Regardless, Myu values his company, confiding in him with her worries.

Topaz

"I'll protect you no matter what..."
—Pg. 12 "White Out," Chapter 1: "Things Change"

Myu displays a caring, and even motherly, attitude toward Topaz. She feels ill-equipped for the role, but nonetheless has promised herself that she will be determined to keep Topaz from danger, even being able to overcome her aversion to combat for her sake. A notable example of this is present in "Lambda and the Wolf in Lamb's Clothing"; although Myu originally hid from Opal in horror, she directly confronts her once Topaz is threatened.

Myu is eager to teach Topaz about their species' unique magical skills, however, her reliance on "proper" fundamentals, pitted against Topaz's headstrong resistance to being told what to do causes dissent; Topaz looks up to her, but is resentful toward her sister's actual methods of teaching magic.

Abilities and Moves

Transform

As a mew, Myu possesses a natural skill that other pokemon do not: the power to shapeshift. She has been seeing using this to take the form of powerful dragon-types in order to gain an advantage over opponents, as a demonstration of her skills, and to disguise her appearance. When transformed, she gains the magical types and a set of moves associated with those species. She cannot use these moves while in her normal body, and her eye color always remains the same while transformed.

As a dragonite, Myu displays strong offensive spells such as Dragon Breath, Flamethrower, and Fire Punch. However, as pointed out by Clara, Myu only ends up tiring herself out much quicker by taking this approach.

Magic Sickness

When angered, the magic she contracted through a scratch from Gamma flares up and causes her normally blue eyes to begin turning red. In this state, she becomes extremely powerful, but unable to be reasoned with. She stops communicating entirely, only silently pursuing her target. She is able to turn the tide of battle against both Gamma and Opal in their respective fights, but shows no regard for friend or foe, slamming Atticus against the ground when he attempts to break her trance, and later losing her temper with Topaz.

Skillset

Object manipulation: Myu has the ability to levitate and move objects using her psychic-type magic, including both inanimate objects and living things.

Levitation: Using her psychic magic, Myu is able to levitate and fly.

Plant proficiency: Myu has knowledge of different plant classifications, as taught to her by Clara.
