Warrior Cats: Untold Tales: Who is Dragonsoul?

Not much is known about the static NPCs in Warrior Cats: Untold Tales, but none draw more confusion and scrutiny than Dragonsoul, a cat with a pink pelt (and an odd name) who stands guard outside the ThunderClan camp next to a regular calico cat named Roseheart.

But first... what am I talking about here?

Warrior Cats: Untold Tales was a fanmade game of the Warrior Cats franchise originally developed by Falcon_star[1], a.k.a Tyler Thompson, who would go on to found Falcon Development LLC and develop Cattails and its sequel, Cattails: Wildwood Story[2]. According to its Softpedia download page, the game was last updated in 2018 with version 15[3], although this isn't true because I have seen mentions of versions later than this being released earlier than 2018. The game continues to see community activity in 2026[4]. It was made to fill the void unfilled by official outlets, as, at the time, there were no official Warrior Cats games, but that's neither here nor there.

So, Dragonsoul. As stated before, they are bright pink, which contrasts against all other NPCs in the game.

Anecdotally, cats with names and pelts like this are not popular choices in the wider fan space.

The image above is from an old RP on an unofficial Warrior Cats forum. The account of the user in question is now deleted.

I have seen claim that this cat is a tom, but there is no indication of this in the game; interactions with this character are limited and give no descriptive hints.

Starting in version 9, they are stationed as a permanent guard outside the ThunderClan camp; The Warrior Cats: Untold Tales wiki erroneously claims that these specific guards were put into place during the production of version 15[5] . This is false. However, it is correct that these NPCs were put in place as part of a contest. All of the camp guard NPCs, even of the other Clans, are custom cats chosen by winners of a contest held by Falcon_star, though the details of the contest have been lost to time, as the Wayback Machine has archived very few pages of the thread where this took place.

Isn't that nice? I love the Wayback Machine. Because it has only archived these seven urls in this thread, it is now impossible to get details on which users chose which cats, or what caused them to win the contest. But we know there was a contest!

The contest, which is an undescribed "video contest" on the wiki, took place during the development of version 9[6]. In fact, this archived page of the thread, which is one of very few, reveals the names of two of the contest winners: Darky (spelled "๔คгкץ") and Diamondjaw, who tells Darky that they and yet another unnamed winner had already selected ThunderClan for their cat placement.

But here's where I reveal that I have been withholding information from you. I already know the nature of the contest. And I already know which user Dragonsoul belongs to. Dragonsoul belongs to Diamondjaw, who won an entry to this contest by making a fanmade trailer for Warrior Cats: Untold Tales. In fact, Diamondjaw isn't just anyone. Diamondjaw is me. And I still have the video that I entered into the contest on my YouTube channel.

My reasoning for the name is simple. I like dragons. I've been referring to the cat as pink throughout this article, but I'm certain I actually wanted the color to be purple because I didn't want to admit that I liked pink as a teenager. I also don't recall choosing a gender at the time; I might have in fact chosen male, but it's impossible to verify now. I decided on the cat's attributes on the spot when I found out that I had won. I did want the cat to be special because it felt like a special occasion to win, and I don't regret that at all. I fully expected Falcon_star to tell me I couldn't have those traits due to them being non-compliant to the Warriors world, or that it would stand out too much. I'm glad he didn't. It made me happy.

As for Darky, they ended up in WindClan. I know which cat they chose too.

That one doesn't feel like as much of a mystery.
